Day Five: Country Glam

After four days of the Black Blazer Challenge and working my favorite black blazer into my “mom” looks, I decided the final look would be a little less “mom-ish” and more “country glam”.

If you know me well, you know my dream gig would be a country-music superstar. And, I am loving me some lady country music right now– they are killing it. Case in point, Miranda Lamgbert’s Pink Guitars and Roadside Bars tour. Which I missed going to see. . . because I had to be a mom . . . it was Cruz’s birthday/baptism . . . priorities.

Anyway, I especially love a solid country girl group. The Dixie Chicks, Pistol Annies and my latest fave, The Highwomen.

The Highwomen

If you haven’t heard The Highwomen yet, DROP EVERYTHING, get some wine and keep reading.

I mean clearly I have a thing for highways, so they are an obvious choice. However, that is a minor detail compared to the vocals, songwriting and the vintage country sound of these badass girls. It’s like Loretta, Tammy, Dolly, and June started a girl group.

Click below to listen to a taste, but seriously, download the whole album. It gives me the major feels. But that might be the wine talking too . . .

She looks like Madonna but she listens to Merle . . .

Okay, so in the event, The Highwomen call and want me to join the band, I needed to have an outfit ready.

I am not sure if the t-shirt or the skirt or the hat is the show-stopper here, so we will discuss everything.

And if this look doesn’t make you want to buy a 1976 Cadillac Eldorado (convertible of course) with the radio blaring some classic country on AM, get a rhinestone guitar, bottle of whiskey and pack of cigarettes, we can’t be friends.

The T-Shirt

This tee was a given to me by a very dear friend for my recent 35th birthday and has now become one of my faves. It is super soft and the imprint is pretty spot-on for my life–“she acts like Madonna but she listens to Merle.” You can find this graphic tee and other equally fabulous options at Giddy Up and Go Boutique in Chadron or by following them on Facebook or Instagram @giddyupandgoboutique–they will ship!

The Skirt

I found this skirt at Forever 21 about two months ago and fell in love immediately. It’s faux leather, has real pockets and the buttons actually snap! The fit and length were just right, and so was the price ($17.99).

The Hat

I purchased my hat about 107 years ago . . . okay, not that long ago, but it’s been a while . . . and have no recollection as to where I got it. But I have included some good dupes if you keep scrolling.

Giddy Up and Go Boutique has new hats at the Chadron location. Check them out @giddyupandgoboutique or click the photo below.

The Boots (made for walking . . .)

My boots are a consignment store find from a few years back–brand is Audrey Brooke. I didn’t find anything super similar online, but I did find these and feel like I should be buying one (or all of the following) to finish this look.

Outtakes

Some of you may be wondering how I shot some of these looks. I don’t own a fancy camera, hell, I don’t even own A camera. As you can probably tell, I have just been using my iPhone.

I am also not great at the “in front of the mirror” selfies and wanted to shoot these looks outside to showcase where we live.

I didn’t plan very well when I started this challenge because I also did not own a tripod at the time, therefore I needed to make my own.

(I have since stopped being a cheapskate and ordered a tripod on Amazon for $12. It’s changing my life).

Below, you will see the glamorous and high-tech photoshoot I set-up for these particular photos. My assistants were totally high-maintenance and absolutely no help at all. They just wanted to play. They didn’t even get me Starbucks.

Oh, and what the heck is that stack of shit on the red wagon? Well, that’s my makeshift tripod kids. Balance is everything–especially when you are trying to get your phone to sit just right.

  • Step-ladder covered in old paint splatter — check
  • Shoe box — check
  • Stack of books — check
  • Annoyed assistants (I mean kids) in the background — check

And there you have it — I am pretty sure Vogue will be calling me soon to schedule a shoot.

Alright ya’ll, hope you enjoyed this challenge as much as I did. Now it’s time for wine . . . or maybe something stronger . . . where’s that whiskey bottle . . . .

Cheers.
