Day Two: Denim Day

Other than pick-up and drop off at Liv’s school, I had no major plans for Day Two (except keeping Cruz from injuring himself, blogging and wine-drinking, of course). However, the Black Blazer Challenge pushed me to do something I had not done since I was working–I got ready before taking Liv to school.

Now, I always brush my teeth, do light makeup, tame my bedhead and change out of my pj’s, before we head to school. I usually take her in work-out clothes because I try to work-out during Cruz’s morning nap, then shower and get into regular clothes later . . . by 10 AM . . . or noon . . . or before I pick up at 3:30. Whatever.

But, on this particular day, I decided to get up, do some blog work before the kids woke up (which means 5 AM–Liv is a damn farmer, up with the sun), shower and do all the “getting ready” things before we left. And you know what? It felt great. I am going to try again on Thursday, but no promises . . . . I mean one day of ambition is enough, right?!?

If you know me, you know that one of my signature looks is a dark, denim flare. Not a bootcut, a good FLARE. I am a small person BUT, I do have some junk in my trunk. And after two babies, I have a bit more junk. And the junk is sort of all over my trunk (literally and figuratively).

No serious, look in my car trunk–stroller, puzzles, one sock, three coats, 13 Walmart receipts, an empty wine bottle . . . .

I am kidding . . .

. . . about the sock . . .

Anyway, BACK to the flare. A flare leg just looks best on me. It helps balance out the junk and it is a classic look. These jeans are more mid/high-rise, which is super flattering and helps to smooth the junk.

The jeans are Flying Monkey, which I purchased from one of my favorite local boutiques, Giddy Up and Go Boutique @giddyupandgoboutique. Check them out on Facebook or Instagram.

The whole denim on denim trend is happening right now, so I tried out my own version of the “Canadian Tuxedo” and paired the jeans with a denim button-down shirt I bought a few years back at Target.

The key to denim on denim is not to be too matchy-matchy, you want varying washes of denim. THE Blazer also helps to break up the look a bit too.

I finished the look with one of my favorite leather belts from H&M and some dainty gold necklaces.

The best part of today was that the horses thought they needed to be in this shot. Aren’t they photogenic?

BONUS ROUND: Casual Friday

After I wore this outfit for a while, I realized this would be a cute alternative for casual Friday at work. Instead of wearing jeans, pair the denim shirt with black dress pants, a crop pant in a print or even a fun skirt–but whatever you do, don’t forget the pearls.

I styled the shirt, two different ways–tucked, then tied. Either way, it’s perfect for the conference room and happy hour. Oh, and look at that, it’s wine-thirty. Cheers.
