DIY Pom Pom Garland

A quick tutorial to creating a DIY pom pom garland for less than $10.

If you are anything like me, you find yourself scrolling through Pinterest or Instagram looking for holiday decor inspiration. Then, upon finding photos you love, you begin shopping for items to recreate the look . . . only to discover that you are a cheap ass and refuse to spend the $$ needed for said garland, wreath, ornament, etc.

Merry Christmas, y’all! It’s time for the 7th annual Holiday Housewalk 2017! This is my second year participating, and I am honored to be a part of such a special Holiday Blog Tour hosted by my sweet friend, Jen Rizzo! So, what do you do next?

You figure out how to make it yourself for less money (but a little more time). That was the case with these pom pom garlands I’ve been seeing. I couldn’t bring myself to pay $10 (or more in some cases) for a short strand of pom poms when I knew I could make a longer one for around $5.

If you’d rather skip the tutorial and crafting and just buy your own, here are some of the inspo garlands I looked at:

I have provided affiliate links to items in this post and may earn a small commission if you follow the links I provide, at no additional cost to you. Just a way for me to make a few extra bucks to maintain my wine-drinking habit (oh, and this blog). Thank you in advance for your support. My name is Danielle and I like wine.

Here is what you need to make your DIY Pom Pom Garland:

  • Pom Poms–I found these at Hobby Lobby. You get 30 of the 1 inch poms for $2.49. I purchased two different sizes so I could mix them up–the 1.5 inch were $2.49 for 20.
Red Pom Poms - 1 1/2"

Walmart also carries them in packs of 24 for 0.97 (which is a better deal, but they weren’t in stock when I needed them)

  • Embroidery Floss–you can buy them in singles for less than 0.60 or a package of them (if you need for other projects for around $7)
  • Embroidery Needles (or a needle with a large enough eye to thread the floss). A package is around $1.
