Easy Ways to Use Natural Elements to Decorate for Fall

Fall is my favorite time of year. I love the fashion, the weather and of course, the decorating. The decor itself is easy and affordable, often found in nature and the colors are warm and inviting. As we approach the first day of fall, I felt it appropriate to share some easy ways to use natural elements to decorate for fall.

This post is short and sweet. Kind of like me . . . except the sweet part. I am more . . . crisp and dry . . . like my wine. But, enough about me, let’s talk fall decor!

Indian Corn

Indian corn screams fall to me. The varied colors of the kernels and the crisp, paper-like texture of the husks are the perfect fall juxtaposition. Arrange it in a glass vase as an alternative to a floral arrangement or just lay it down in a vignette to display its full, colorful glory.

Simple fall beauty.

Natural Grasses

Adding natural grass to floral arrangements is a great way to create visual interest and to bring the great outdoors, in. Get out and enjoy a beautiful fall day and hunt for grasses in various heights and textures.

And don’t be afraid to forgo the florals completely. Grasses on their own are equally as stunning.

Pumpkins

This feels a little like a no-brainer, but nothing says “fall” like pumpkins. The best part is they are inexpensive, come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors, and if you take care of them, they will last all season.

Check out this post by a fellow blogger, for how to preserve your pumpkins.

Add pumpkins to your outdoor pots, stack them on top of each other, group them on your porch steps or incorporate them in your indoor displays.

But, whatever you do, don’t do fall decor without pumpkins. Just don’t. But do make sure to look for interesting details like long stems, curly vines still attached, interesting colors, warts, and veining.

Other Natural Elements

While you are out searching for some of the aforementioned natural elements, you may run across other equally as decorative options like leaves, sticks, dried floral stems, feathers, antlers, etc. Keep your eyes peeled and you just never know what you might discover.

Use sticks and/or feathers in your floral arrangements, mix dried leaves with faux berries to create a garland or place antlers among your other fall decor.

Fall Printable

If hunting and gathering grasses, berries, dead cow heads and deer sheds are not up your alley (which is totally okay–I like all kinds around here as long you don’t judge my wine consumption or obsession with H&M)–this next decor tip is super easy.

And, in the spirit of fall and September being my favorite (and birthday) month, I thought it was time for a free gift.

A printable! All you have to do is download the PDF below, print it off, cout out the image and put it in a frame. It’s so easy, I did it after a few glasses of wine . . . but then again, what don’t I do without a few glasses of wine . . . hmmmmmm . . .

As a bonus, you can either add your own real pressed leaves (for those still wanting a natural element–see the first image below) or chose the one with the leaf graphic (see the second image).

Or go crazy and do both and give one to a friend!
