Fall Fashion Trends You Can Actually Wear (& Afford)

Watching runway fashion is a great way to see what is coming up for the next season. However, more often than not, the looks are not exactly . . . wearable . . . at least not for everyday life (and not necessarily budget-friendly). So, here are some trends to watch for as you shop for fall. Looks you can actually wear (and afford) in real life, based on some of the “must-have” Fall 2020 Fashion trends according to those “in the know” like Vogue, Who What Wear and of course, yours truly.

In each section, I have included runway and inspiration looks. Following the inspo pics, you will see images and links to affordable dupes. You will probably notice that many of the dupes are from H&M. If you’ve been with me for a while, you know I have a deep love and obsession for this store. And it just so happened they had great stuff for this post. Go figure.

I have provided affiliate links to items in this post and may earn a small commission if you follow the links, at no additional cost to you. Just a way for me to make a few extra bucks to maintain my wine-drinking habit (oh, and this blog). Thank you in advance for your support. My name is Danielle and I like wine.

Creamy Neutrals

Obviously, neutrals are a fall staple. But this year, they are taking a lighter approach. Perfect for anyone who likes a little cream in their coffee . . . or should I say, a little coffee with their cream.

Try layering them in different shades and textures for a look that will be anything but bland

And, don’t stay away from white after Labor Day . . . that’s an old rule. However, lean more toward ivory and cream and pay attention to the fabric. Cotton makes white feel summery, where as chunky knits or silk feel warmer and will allow you to wear the piece into the winter and early spring.

Add these wearable neutrals to your closet now!

The Skirt Suit

This look is perfect for all of you working gals because it is a feminine approach to the power suit. I also love it because another big trend this fall was separates–and what better way to create multiple outfits than by mixing up a skirt and jacket with all of your other wardrobe staples?

Pair the skirt with a graphic tee and tennis shoes for a casual look, or dress it up with a lacy tank for evening.

Wear the jacket with a plain white tee, dark flare jeans and booties for a put-together (but you didn’t try too hard) date night look. Or, throw it over a slip dress for a dressy night-out.

Suit-up your skirt with these pieces!

All Things “Extra”

Prints, tapestry textures, metallic fabrics, chain details and fringe are among some of the fall fashion trends that will make your everyday look a little “extra”.

I should have titled this something like “Victorian-Prairie-Cowboy-Naughty Prep School Girl”. Because any (or combination) of that goes this fall.

Make a metallic tank cozy by topping it with a warm, fuzzy cardigan. Or up the cool-factor by pairing a little shimmer with a tough-girl black leather jacket or pant.

A check, plaid or houndstooth skirt with a neutral turtleneck and leather boots is a classic and fun look. But, if you want to take it step further, try mixing a large plaid sweater with a smaller houndstooth skirt in complementary colors.

For those less daring, show your flare in your accessories. An embroidered belt, fringe bootie or chain belt.

For example, not sure if you can rock a fringe jacket? Find a fringe purse or clutch and rock it with a simple floral maxi. Boho-chic at it’s finest.

Want more “extra”? Look for balloon sleeves, high necklines with bows or items that have accessories “built-in”–like a pearl collar or chain detail on a slip-on mule shoe.
